Sometimes, instead of sitting in a car or riding a train, or a bus, or what have you, walking seems like a much nicer option, save for the fact that it's pretty damn cumbersome if you plan on going anywhere further than a few kilometers away.

For these moments, there's now a new piece of footwear tech that will actually allow you to walk at the speed of running.

Called the 'Moonwalkers', these shoes are more like slip-on skates that function automatically with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), which means that you don't need to know how to skate to use them — simply walk as usual and let the technology do the rest.

As mentioned, one of the most impressive things about the Moonwalkers is how it uses AI to learn your walking patterns and adapt to your gait, all while you yourself learn how to walk in them.

Manipulating them seems pretty intuitive as well. You only need to quicken your pace to get the shoes to accelerate, and there's also an option to apply brakes that immediately halt movement if necessary.

And if you were curious about traversing uneven surfaces, the Moonwalkers also allow you to lock them and then negotiate things like stairs just like you'd normally do.

Other features that make the Shift Moonwalkers pretty appealing are things like water-resistance and of course, a top speed of around 11.2 kilometers per hour.

The ergonomic hinge system allows the foot to flex naturally at the toes, allowing for all movement and balance.

The artificial intelligence uses machine learning algorithms to adapt to the user's walking gait, making it an extension of people's legs.

Equipped with multi-layer brake protection device, and two modes of locking and moving .

This means you can go up and down stairs normally, step onto public transport and wait safely at pedestrian crossings after lockdown.

When Lock Mode is activated, the electronic brakes fully lock the wheels. A shift is required to initiate, i.e. start at a running pace , to return to lockout mode, lift your right heel into the air, then return to the ground as usual .

Walk in the usual way, and the AI will adapt on its own. Not skating, but actually walking, so no new skills to learn.

When you want to speed up, you only need to go faster; if you want to slow down, you go slower; when you want to stop, Moonwalkers will automatically adjust to slow down and stop moving forward.
